Circumcision (milah) is the covenant sign instituted by YHWH with Abraham for all males in his household (Gen 17:10-14). It marks membership in the covenant community and is to be performed on the eighth day (Lev 12:3). The uncircumcised are “cut off” from the covenant people (Gen 17:14).
